About Marisa
Marisa Gelfand is a Licensed Professional Counselor with extensive experience helping people who are struggling with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, body image concerns, relationship stressors, and low confidence/self-esteem.
Before entering private practice in 2014, Marisa worked in inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment settings, giving her the expertise to partner with even the most severe patients.
Marisa is keenly aware of the pressure placed on adolescents, college students, and young adults / young professionals and the negative impact of such pressure on mental health. Marisa enjoys working with both male and female patients as they uncover the underpinnings behind their eating disorders or other struggles, and she excels at helping even the least-motivated patient find a desire to recover.
Marisa is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, a boarding school in Connecticut, and Brandeis University. Marisa earned her Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Missouri – St. Louis and is licensed to practice in Missouri and Virginia.
When she's not working, Marisa enjoys reading, writing, and hanging out with her young sons and husband. She is a heart mom and volunteers with the Children's Heart Foundation and the local Parent-Teacher Organization.
